Shopify: take dimensions from the packed product size

Shopify lets you enter each product's Packed product size: its length, width and height when it's ready to ship. ASM can copy that size into its Dimensions setting every time a product syncs, so you keep sizes in one place.

Before you turn it on

  • ASM copies the size only for products that have all three of length, width and height in Shopify. Products without a packed size keep the dimensions they have in ASM.
  • For a product that has a packed size, Shopify's size replaces the dimensions you typed in ASM or uploaded by CSV.
  • Dynamic dimensions (a box that grows with quantity, written like 20x15x15=0x1x2|5) are kept. ASM doesn't overwrite them.
  • If you set dimensions with a dimensions: product tag, the tag wins.
  • Sizes in centimeters are converted to inches.

Steps

  1. In Shopify, open a product and fill in Packed product size under Shipping. For products with variants, set it on each variant.
  2. In ASM, go to Settings → Shipping.
  3. Switch on Grab dimension values from product data. The hint reads "Uses each variant's Packed product size in Shopify. This will affect product sync from now on."
  4. Select Save Settings.

Products pick up their packed size the next time they sync, for example when you edit and save them in Shopify. To update all products at once, contact support and ask for a full product sync.

What ASM does on each sync

  • Shopify's length × width × height becomes ASM's Dimensions.
  • A product that gets dimensions is set to Ship alone, like any product with dimensions. See Set dimensions, boxes and "ship alone".
  • With the Points System add-on, the setting reads Grab dimension values from product data and calculate the point value: ASM sets the product's points to length × width × height instead of filling in Dimensions. If your store uses the enhanced points system, ASM fills in Dimensions too, and Ship alone stays off. See Box mapping (points system).

Check that it works

  1. Edit a product in Shopify that has a packed product size, and save it.
  2. In ASM, open the product on the Products page. Dimensions should match Shopify.
